Generally what is more important than getting water-tight answers is learning to ask the right questions.

Our Approach to Therapy
Good therapy creates a safe space in which courageous, collaborative processing helps you see yourself more clearly.
We all have assumptions about what will move us toward healthy and promising lives and relationships. When these expectations are disrupted or challenged by intense emotions, confusing thoughts, loss, broken relationships, individual trauma, systemic traumas, or other difficult life circumstances, we can get stuck and feel like we are drowning, confused, alone, in pain, and or just numb.
This is where therapy can be helpful. Therapy is not only a confidential space where honest processing can happen, but it is also a unique relationship between therapist and client. While relationships can cause pain, they can also be sources of incredible meaning-making and healing. In the uniqueness of a therapeutic relationship, we can begin to journey together. As therapists, we bear witness to all the complexities of your story, we hold up a mirror so you can see yourself more clearly, and we help you identify the patterns keeping you stuck and the way forward. We help you slow down, make sense of your story, and have compassion for the ways you have been surviving. We identify strengths and joys, as well as growing edges and pain. We work to not only reduce your symptoms but integrate all these elements in a way that will free you to live your life more fully.
At Mixed Roots, we have a passion for the discovery and integration of people’s identities and stories. We value drawing on the strengths, values, contexts, and communities (e.g., cultural, religious, chosen family) of our clients because they are what make each person unique and thus are essential to the process of healing. We are especially passionate about working with people with complex identities (multi-racial/ethnic cultural people, religion, sexuality, immigration), complex relational trauma, BIPOC men and women, and emerging adults. Lastly, we have specific training and passion for integrating people’s spirituality and the Sacred, from all faith backgrounds, into our psychotherapeutic work. We draw specifically from psychodynamic, relational, emotion-focused, internal family systems, and attachment therapy modalities.
