Shaya Aguilar, MA

My name is Shaya Aguilar, and I am a psychological associate, working under the license of Dr. Noah Lau Branson (PSY32992).

I identify as a mixed-race Latina therapist with Mexican and European roots. I understand the nuance of holding multiple identities and the experience of not fully belonging to any singular cultural context. This awareness informs my sensitivity to issues of identity, culture, and belonging in the therapeutic space, particularly for clients navigating intersecting identities or questions of self.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Hispanic Studies, as well as master’s degrees in Ministry and Clinical Psychology, and I am currently a doctoral candidate at Fuller Seminary. I am also a certified power yoga instructor and outdoor enthusiast. My educational and lived experiences have shaped my understanding of mental health as holistic and interconnected, attending not only to the mind, but also to the body, spirit, and the communities we are embedded within.

As a native to Southern California, raised in close proximity to the Santa Monica mountains, I value the role of nature and movement in grounding and self-understanding. This perspective carries into my clinical work, where I remain attentive to how clients relate to their bodies, communities, and the land. As a Christian guided by values of hospitality and empathy, I welcome clients from all faith traditions, cultural backgrounds, identities (LGBTQ+/SES/spirituality), and lived experiences.

I approach clinical work through a relational, culturally responsive, and holistic lens, accompanying clients in exploring the complexities of their internal and interpersonal relationships. I draw from relational, psychodynamic and attachment-based frameworks while attending to the broader systems that shape each person’s story. I specialize in working with women, BIPOC individuals navigating immigration and cross-cultural experiences, mixed couples (bi/multi-cultural/ethnic/racial), and communal trauma.

In our work, I offer a thoughtful, collaborative, and attuned environment where you are able to show up as your authentic self. Together, we can explore patterns, deepen your self-understanding, cultivate meaning, and move towards sustainable healing in your life.
